My Inspiration:

My interest in photography started when I helped a friend back in High School develop some of her photographs for her art class.  I didn’t have a camera at the time, but from then on I was determined to purchase one and get my own work developed.  I finally found a 35mm camera for $10 at a antique store and began using it immediately.  My actual inspiration in photography really began when I took a course on the history of photography while I was in college.  Learning about the early history of photography and its progression into an art form really made me passionate about creating my own works.

Launched: 

I launched Alyssa Ashdown Photography when I was asked by a friend of mine to take their engagement photos in May of 2009.  After doing so, I also their wedding photographer.  Although I began marketing myself as a wedding photographer I also wanted to showcase my passion for photography and show some of my freelance work that I also take great pride in.

Where I am Heading:

At this point I am heading into the realm of wedding photography as I have another wedding that I was asked to photograph for.  I also still enjoy taking my own pictures for the hobby side of my interest.  Lately I have been working on photographing older buildings and interesting architecture.  Since moving to Atlanta I have also been able to explore and find new inspiration for my photography.

My Best Kept Secret:

When taking photographs I always make sure that I am capturing something that I find different and interesting in my eyes.  Maybe finding the right angle or waiting for the right time of day to take that photo can make all of the difference into what you are portraying to your viewer.

One of my favorite ways to promote my work is through my personal webpage, tumblr, and facebook.  I really enjoy using my tumblr account because I am able to continually post my new work.

My News:

Since promoting my work as a photographer I try and make sure to continue finding time to take photographs for myself.  It is what draws a fine line between your passion being a hobby and turning into a business.  Since I would like to continue both I am glad to still find the time to separate my work.  I would also like to thank Social Brand Aid for including me in their Social Spotlight, I am honored to be able to take part in your article.
