Paper Twins is made up of two girls (Nica and Edgar) who put art in the streets as well as in galleries. Our work is playful and fun and often involves life-sized people made of paper or wood.
Inspiration: We are inspired by artists like Os Gemeos, Swoon and Miso (among many others) who work in the streets. We love French movies, Spanish music, magic, alchemy, being girls and having fun.
Date Launched: In 2009 we met at a little coffee shop/wine bar where we had both started working. We had each been in art school but were currently dissatisfied and not being very productive, artistically-speaking. We decided to make drawings and to wheatpaste them on abandoned buildings around Atlanta. It was a lot of fun so we kept at it and eventually began to be noticed and encouraged by people who saw our work.
Direction we are heading: We’ve wheatpasted and showed in Atlanta for the most part and would like to travel and have shows in other cities. There’s been some talk of a show in New York… we’ll just have to see where it all goes!
Advice for fans: If someone asks you to be part of a show, interview or project don’t be afraid to say yes, even if it scares you!
Favorite social media sites that help with promotion: Flickr is a great site for looking at other artists’ work and showcasing ours. We found out about artists like Doodles and Swamp Donkey on Flickr and eventually got to meet them and be in a show together.
You’re invited to: Our first solo show coming up May 21st at Get This! Gallery. We’re really looking forward to this night of images and work (and maybe food too!) inspired by Peru and Mississippi. Visit www.getthisgallery.com for more information.
We also have work in Streetella’s launch which will be April 9th at 900 Dekalb Avenue in Atlanta. This event will feature 16 artists, each with drawings and t-shirts for sale. Visit www.streetela.com for more information. Hope to see you there!
